Who will be the 2016 Champion?

With Bathurst now been run and won ( Well sort of!) it’s time we get to our Grand Final round down at Phillip Island on the 29/30th of this month.

We will find out who will be the 2016 Superior Foods Victorian Hyundai Excel Champion!

Adam Bywater currently has one hand on the trophy and just needs to finish every race to take out the Championship but this is Motorsport and anything can happen and if it does Kaide Lehmann and Nathan Blight will both be there to make the most of it and possibly take that Championship away from him.

Still with a chance to win the championship but they need a fair bit of luck to go their way is Neville Blight, Brendan Avard and Ash Wright, it is a long shot but stranger things have happened in Motorsport before!!

All of the points are very close and there will be many battles the whole way through the field, to see who has the bragging rights over there mate camped next to them in the pits..

The entries for Phillip Island close this Thursday (20/10/16) so it is still not too late to get your entry in.

If you are in the area make sure you call in and see some great racing over the whole weekend, it is sure to be some of the closest racing we have seen this year so far as we get to crown our 2016 Champion.

Next stop Winton Raceway for Round 5 of the Superior Foods Victorian Excel Series

It’s race week again, with a quick two week turn around the Superior Food Victorian Excel Series will be back on the track this weekend at Winton Motor Raceway.

We will have 21 cars on the grid this weekend and we are sure the racing will be as close as usual.

Kaide Lehmann is always quick at Winton and will be out to make up for his last race at Phillip Island where he went playing in the sand trap, Adam Bywater is in the same boat as Kaide, he proved at Phillip Island he is human after all as he made a rare mistake and followed Kaide into the sand so he wasn’t lonely.

Ash Wright will certainly be one to keep an eye on as he has competed more laps than anyone else this year around Winton doing numerous test days there.

Nathan Blight has done an engine change since Phillip Island and is hoping he has found another magic motor like the last one he had in, as per usual Nathan is talking himself down but expect to see him right in the mix of things.

Brendan Avard is back in his old car for this weekend and when we were at Winton earlier in the year he was certainly on the pace by the end of the weekend so he will hoping to pick up from where he left there last time.

Richard Dickie showed great form at Phillip Island and made a huge improvement so we would expect to see him mixing it up the front of the field.

We welcome Scott Stephenson from South Australia for this round, he is making the trip across to join us, Scott is a regular front runner in SA and has driven around Winton before so don’t be surprised to see him at the front of the field.

Ashleigh Kerwood will join us on the grid for the first time after just finishing building his car.

The other new driver that is joining us this weekend is Matt (Captain Risky) Stubbs, Matt is filling in for his brother Gavin as he is unable to make it this weekend.

Matt will be one to keep an eye on as he has plenty of race experience, Matt has won the Formula Vee Australian Title and has been a regular front runner in the Vee.

Bywater Blitz

Adam Bywater has continued his march to the top after race one of round four at Phillip Island.

The race was held in tricky conditions with a damp track and more rain threatening to drench the field. Bywater continued his fantastic form from previous rounds but had the Nathan Blight and Daniel Orr breathing down his neck to take out second and third places.  Brendan Avard was on a charge after failing to qualify due to a clutch failure, an incredible drive saw him come from back of grid to 6th place. A detailed roundup of the weekend to come.

Round 4 Phillip Island Preview

It’s race weekend and it looks like the weather gods aren’t going be that nice to us this weekend with rain predicted and being Phillip Island it will be very fresh down there!

With the weather that we are going to have it will be sure to mix the results up. In saying that though I think the same usual suspects will be at the front.

Ash Wright will be looking for back to back pole positions, with the difference this time him getting away cleanly and not making a mistake while leading the field this time.

Kaide Lehmann has shown he is quick in the wet before and will certainly be pushing, his team mate Daniel Cooper will be right there as well in his new car.

Championship leader Adam Bywater will be in the mix right at the front and he will be looking to cement his spot at the top, his team mate Tim Yates is never far from the action and will be there helping his team owner to extend his points lead.

Team Blight with both Nev and Nathan are never far from the front and Nathan will be out to continue his great form he had before blowing a gearbox up in the last round.

The battle for Team Cave Hill will certainly be interesting to watch this weekend to see who comes out on top, Dylan Innes has a brand new engine and is boasting about the amount of power he has now, so hopefully he comes out in front of his team mates Stuart Jones, Neil Haesler, Nick Higgins, Nick Scarcella and new team mate for this weekend making his debut Steven Tate.

Next in the inter team battles will be Team Arrow Line marking, they are back to three cars for this weekend with the return of Gavin Dunn after he has packed up his caravan and his grey nomad hat for the weekend, should be nice and close between Wayde, Gavin and Bryan.

Karl Neilson has a team mate for this weekend with Wayne Milburn Jnr joining us for the first time on the track. Will it be Karl who shows Wayne how it’s done or will Wayne’s speedway experience pay off in the wet conditions?

The next team battle will be between Brendan Avard debuting a new car this weekend, Peter Green Jnr and David Page, Peter comes into the series for the first time but has previously raced front wheel drive cars and loves the wet weather.

Gavin Stubbs has been in great form lately and will certainly be one to watch this weekend, he will bringing along another car this weekend for Scott Manson to run in, Scott also comes into the series for the first time and has plenty of front wheel drive experience after racing mini’s.

Bruce Phillips has been hard at work on his car in the lead up to this round and is sure to be a man on a mission this weekend.

Daniel Orr, Troy Musto and Jordan Ryle will all be hoping for a good run this weekend after not having much luck go their way so far this season.

Belinda East and Richard Dickie have both shown great speed of late but have had a few up and down weekends so they will be looking for a more consistent weekend this time around.

Stephen Kerwood and Jordan Greenslade will also join us for the first time this year and it will be interesting to see how they go this weekend.

The field is certainly growing all the time and getting even closer in their times, this weekend is sure be nice and close and produce some great racing.

If you’re not doing anything this weekend make sure you grab your coat and head down to Phillip Island for some great racing!

30 Cars to hit the Track at Phillip Island

30 Excel’s are expected to hit the track for Round 4 of the Superior Food Victorian Excel Series next weekend at Phillip Island.

Although a few from the last round won’t be running this round, the grid size has grown with the addition of 5 new drivers for this round.

We welcome Peter Green Jnr, Steven Tate, Stephen Kerwood, Wayne Milburn Jnr and Scott Manson to the class. Some of these guys come with some great experience and will certainly be ones to watch out for and could surprise a few with how well they go.

We welcome back Gavin Dunn and Nick Scarcella who both are returning this round after not running so far this year, I’m sure Gavin will be keen to return quickly to the great form he showed last year and Nick will be looking to benefit from all the laps he recently did at the Phillip Island 6hr.

Daniel Cooper will be debuting a brand new car and expect to see him straight back up the front of the field with this car, also debuting a new car for this round is Brendan Avard, this car certainly looks the goods and we would expect to see him up the front as well.

Round 3 Roundup!

Bywater…The man on a mission!

Adam Bywater takes out round 3 of the Superior food service challenge in style winning the final two races on Sunday which saw conditions remain steady with a massive threat of rain.

Race two saw Nathan Blight mount a small challenge for the race win until gearbox failure saw and early retirement from the lead of the race and the round, handing a fast approaching Bywater the lead and race win. Team mate Tim Yates finished in a strong second place to have a Hi-gloss body works finish 1-2 for race two.

Kaide Lehman recovered well to place third in race two after contact with another car in race one bent the read end of the Bendigo Door centre machine. Brendan Avard having a much stronger round along with Neville Blight, with both drivers running spare engines to round out the top 5.

Ash wright lived up to his new nick name “Enforcer” driving the wheels off the Brown Davis excel to finish a cracking 6th from starting 19th.

Race 3 looked to start in wet conditions with a massive threat of rain while the pre grid was formed. Again it was Bywater who bolted from the start and looked to have it all his own way, until a fast finishing Lehman made a last lap attempted to steal the race win. Yates, old man Blight, Avard, Stubbs and wright all fighting hard for track position, and the final place on the podium.

In the end it was Bywater home in first and claiming the round win. Lehman a close second and Yates rounding out the podium.

The Victorian excel racing association would like to thank the Australian sports sedan association for having us and running a faultless event, all the officials, flag marshals and safety teams for all your hard work.

The next round see us at Phillip Island for round 4 of the Superior Food Services challenge on August 20/21
With a four race format scheduled, it’s sure to spice things up in the run home to the 2016 Championship.
